I was away for a week.  When I left, these hadn't even pushed up through the earth.  Now look at them!  OK, so that's not very impressive either, but these things frow at a prodigious rate.  I intend to take a photo once a week to document them.

White bleeding hearts

We have two bleeding heart plants.  The white ones seem to grow about 3 days slower than the pink ones.  They are quite interesting to look at.

Bleeding hearts

These plants are stunning.  Two weeks ago they were still completely in the ground, not even a green wisp sticking out.  In that time, this plant grew over 3 feet tall (1M) and bloomed as well!  We love these unique flowers and so do the bees.  This is growing on the north side of the house; morning sun and that's it.  We've never done anything except watch it grow, and it comes back every year just like this - now that's an easy to care for flower!

Bleeding hearts

Yesterday I posted a photo of the white bleeding hearts. That plant sits next to this one; a pink colour. The pink ones are the most common.

These plants are so vigorous that they seem to add several inches a day in the first 2 weeks. This branch of flowers didn't exist last week, and today it is poking through the picket fence.

I didn't notice the water droplets inside the flower until I saw this enlarged on the computer. Amazing!

I was away for the weekend, and when I left, these bleeding hearts were mere sprouts 3 inches tall (8cm). When I got back, they were 3 feet tall (1m) and in bloom! These plants amaze me every year.

My bleeding hearts have flowered! That was quick, but we've had summer-like temperatures here (88F - 31C) for the past few days, and the flowers love it!

I likes the out-of-focus background, but I couldn't figure out a way to move the chives and take the photo at the same time. Yes, chives. I'm not sure how they got into the flowers; probably our friendly neighbourhood squirrels at work.
