Day lily

We have day lilies out front.  It always gets too overgrown and I always intend to do something about it, but I never seem to get round to it.  I don't know how these grow so well!

Day lily

It's been hot and dry for a few weeks now and the flowers are stressed. The day lilies still open each morning but they don't last until evening, so the only way to take their photo is in the early morning.

Lily in the Jewelweed

Wile walking through the lower part of Vale (near Nott Terrace if anyone wants to visit) I was looking at the jewelweed (also called touch-me-not) to see if the seed pods had begun ripening yet (they haven't). I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across this gorgeous lily tucked in the midst of all the jewelweed. I have no idea what species the lily is, but I later found several more examples.

Day lily

Close-up of one of the day lilies in the garden. Captured on one of the sunny days. Well, more accurately, captured during a sunny interval!

Day Lily

This flower reminds me of the fireworks last night. It's customary to celebrate the anniversary of American Independence (4th of July) by lighting fireworks and firecrackers.

Technically illegal for private individuals to do here, the night is filled with the sounds of rockets, firecrackers and Roman Candles going off.

I often attend one of the professional displays, but didn't get round to any this year. But I did enjoy the displays in my neighbourhood!
