Femme

This is Femme.  She's a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog - a Swissy.  She loves the outdoors, even if it's chilly out.  She's coming back from her morning walk, and she's happy to see someone at eye level!

I haven't been good about posting... it's hard to find interesting things to photograph in this time after the leaves have fallen and before the snow.

Babysitting

We had a guest with us for a weekend - Jackson.  Here, he is sitting in the window on the front porch, surrounded by toys.  These expand into tunnels large enough for a dog to crawl through.  Or a child.  Or a kooky Dad!

Lana enjoys the sun

This is Lana.  She's a German Shepherd Dog, a rescue.  It's been cold here of late, and she enjoys the sun coming in through the window after a walk outside.  I do, too!

Great and small

Animals are amazing. The dog (whose paw you see here) is a hundred pounds. She's quite sensitive about her front feet; she won't let me touch them without pulling them away. Well, the kitten decided he wanted to sleep on her feet, and the dog didn't move.

That's the spot!

Our Swissy has a few favourite places on her typical walk route where she drops and rolls onto her back, wriggling along the grass. It must feel good, because she spends a good 5 minutes or so if we leave her to her own devices.

She's a good dog.

A boy and his dog

He weighs 60 pounds, she weighs 100. One of the most people-friendly dogs we've known. Of course she gets along with the cats as well. She's a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, rescued from a breeder. She's more patient with him than I am!

Puppy in the flowers

Another rescued animal joins the menagerie. This is Roku, the Japanese Chin. He has a liver problem and no one wanted him. Well, except us. His problem is easily treated with special diet and he's quite a happy fellow. He is learning to get along with everyone else in the house. Puppies are... high energy.

Anyway, here he is after a walk, lounging in the flower bed. The violets don't care that they're being sat on and the grape hyacinth colour is strangely influenced by the pure white of his fur. He's looking at a bee, going about it's business; thus the strange pose.

So close and yet so far...

Sleeping together on the couch, the cat and the dog don't mind each others company. It's funny though, that no matter how much she stretches out, the dog won't touch the cat. And it's not the claws: as far as I know, the cat has never scratched the dog, even once.

Inseparable

A little while ago I posted a photo of two of the cats. This time, it's the dog's turn. She's very camera shy, but I managed to snap one of her on the bed with the third cat. The cat's name is... well, it's Spot. No, he hasn't got a spot. He came to us already named.

Spot loves the dog to pieces. I think he figures he needs to take care of her. He's never far from her - pet one and the other will come running!

The dog is a sort of rescue dog; she came to us from a breeder after her breeding days were over. She's very shy which is a bit of a surprise for such a large dog. She weighs something like 90 pounds (41kg). She's a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, nicknamed the Swissy.
