Theme Day - Bright colours

On the first of the month, many in the City Daily Photo community post a photo that represents a given theme. This month, the theme is Bright colours. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

I am looking forward to seeing everyone else's photos. I found this particularly difficult. For one thing, I don't exactly have a photographer's eye and the only thing I could think of as colourful was flowers. I've posted rather a lot of flowers, although there's one in particular I would have reserved if only I'd known what the theme would be.

I looked round the house, the neighbourhood and the city for something bright, and it all seemed either green or concrete! The nature of living here, and not say, Hawai'i. I settled on this photo of some construction equipment that was in the neighbourhood to work on a natural gas pipe leak. It's (somewhat) bright and it shows the nature of the neighbourhood (a bit).

Do visit the rest of the photographers; there are so many wonderful photos from so many places!

Vale Village

I live in a section of the city called Vale. Actually, the Vale neighbourhood is a thin slice between State Street and Vale Cemetery - it's so thin that we're generally lumped together with Hamilton Hill by everyone else in the city.

Several years ago, the city received a community block grant to revitalise the Vale and Hamilton Hill neighbourhoods. Streets were paved, sidewalks and curbing put in, signs went up - it was very encouraging to see.

This is one of the signs that went up. It's an arch across the street, raised up on brick pillars. It reminded me of some of Cieldequimper's photos for some reason.

Mohawk Ambulance

While looking through the photos of the Mohawk art, I stumbled across this one. Some days, it seems that all that is left of the native culture is their names...

Anyway, this is just down the street from me. We have private ambulance service here, and Mohawk Ambulance has been in the city for as long as I can remember. For the longest time, they had no competition, thus their slogan 'The Ambulance.'

Free lunch

I think the sign says it all.

Aslant

This stone reminds me of the standing stones in the UK, or Brittany. Of course it wasn't erected by Druids, but it's still a mystery. I asked around, but no one seems to know the meaning of this marker, standing askew on Nott Terrace, below the museum. It's right next to the ALCO locomotive.

Schenectady International
, maybe?

Theme day: 'No'

Today's City Daily Photo theme is 'signs with the word no on them.'

This one is in Central Park, behind the dog park. Nailed to a tree in the wood is a sign forbidding us to stand. Of course, there used to be a vehicle thoroughfare here, but all that's left is this lonely sign.
