Strawberries

I always look forward to this day - the day the first strawberries are ripe.  The little one does, too!  This plant is in the side yard.  During the winter, it's usually covered in big piles of snow but that doesn't seem to deter it.  Nature is amazing.

Strawberries

The strawberries are coming ripe! I like how the violet leaf mirrors the berry.

Strawberries!

It's early June, and that means the strawberries are getting ready! The very first fruits of the season, and what a treat it is to be able to go out into the yard and eat one straight off the plant!

First strawberry!

It seems like yesterday this was a flower! Being the first strawberry, of course the local wildlife has taken a nibble, but there are more where this came from. Yay!

Housekeeping note: I've been experiencing a bit of a problem posting comments, even to this blog so I've been incommunicado of late. Found out that it's because third-party cookies were disabled in my browser. That's fixed and I hope to start commenting on other blogs very soon.

By the bye. We ate this berry anyway!

Strawberries and violets

The vegetable garden has started flowering! Are strawberries considered a vegetable? I don't know, but they come back year after year, like the violets, and like the violets, they're in bloom!

Nature is wonderful - all this beauty in just a few feet of soil in the middle of the city.

The strawberries are ripe!

While not in the city itself, there is a family farm called Buhrmaster's . They are on NY Rt 50 in nearby Scotia.

We wanted to pick our own rather than buy them already picked. We took the little one and off we went. The lady at the field found this unusual specimen and gave it to him.

He was very impressed, and insisted I take a photo of it.

Ripe strawberries

It doesn't take long for the strawberries in the side yard to get ripe. We don't have many plants, so these are a real treat!

Not quite strawberry season

We don't have a large property, but we try to keep a few vegetables and flowers. One of the plants my wife likes to cultivate is strawberries. Today, she and the little one picked a ripe one and ate it straight out of the garden, but mostly, the berries look like this one.

In a few weeks they'll all be ripe and eaten.
