Monthly Theme Day - My Street

Each month, people in the City Daily Photo community choose a theme and we post a photo that we feel interprets that theme.  This month, the theme is My Street.  Julie at Sidney Eye has a page that showcases all the entries - do have a look!

Mother Nature blessed us with a dusting of snow last night.  The little one bundled himself up and made many a footprint and a few snow angels first thing this morning.  Spot the cat escaped out the back door and pulled up short when he realised he was standing in this chilly white stuff.  He sniffed around a bit and came back in.  We have many neighbours who came here from Guyana.  The amount of snow on the ground is so small that it doesn't come up over plastic flip-flops.  (Guess how I know that!)  The weather is supposed to warm up tomorrow - I fully expect this snow to be totally melted by then.  It didn't occur to me to get a snow shovel out.  But my Guyanese neighbours are more careful than I am!

First real snow

We've had a strange winter so far.  No snow to speak of.  Oh, a dusting here and there, but it quickly melted and was gone in a day or two.  On the 12th we got 4 inches of real snow.  Wet, heavy and perfect for snowman and snowball-making!  Of course, the temperature is hovering around freezing, and we got some rain too, so who knows how long this will remain on the ground?

First snowman

We had our first real snow yesterday. When it accumulates early in the season, we say that it's sticking. Later in the season, we just say 'not again!'

My youngest made a snowman. There wasn't a lot of snow, so the snowy fellow isn't only short, but he's a bit dirty as well. He doesn't seem to mind.

It stuck!

It stuck! That's how we say that the snow didn't melt. All the tree branches are covered with snow and it looks beautiful. Of course that means the sidewalks are icy, which is less wonderful, but it's kind of Zen when you think of it.
