Midwinter's day

It's below zero today, -3F (-19C).  As is typical of such days here, the air is completely still.  Since the furnaces are on, there is steam or smoke coming out of most every chimney.  Because there is a high pressure system right over us, and the air is so still, the smoke rises straight up out of the chimney and into the air.

Skywatch Friday

It is -6F this morning, and the furnace is working hard to keep us warm.  The icicles are growing little by little, and the frost appears magically every morning.  But the sun is out, the sky is blue and somehow the cold doesn't reach my bones.  On days like this, I am extra thankful for the people who work outside to make my life easier.
