Spring runoff

Runoff seems such an unlovely word for the way the frozen ground sheds the melting snows of winter and the first few rains of spring.  All the streams are high now; full of water running off the land.

Thawing

The small creeks that feed the Mohawk River are beginning to thaw out.  This one is at the Kiwanis Park off of NY Route 5S in Rotterdam Junction.

Terraforming

Humans are builders, but there's something magnetic about a stream and a bank full of stones that just cries out for a dam to be built. OK, so it's probably not terraforming as we think of it, but these two brothers are changing the earth together just the same.
