The next morning

Yesterday's storm has moved on... for us.  When I took this, the storm still covered Boston to Portland and continued to dump snow on them.  It's amazing to think the sun can be shining in a cloudless sky here, and 3 hours east, not a glimpse of it can be seen.

Midwinter's day

It's below zero today, -3F (-19C).  As is typical of such days here, the air is completely still.  Since the furnaces are on, there is steam or smoke coming out of most every chimney.  Because there is a high pressure system right over us, and the air is so still, the smoke rises straight up out of the chimney and into the air.

Parachute guy

It was a nice day, so why not throw parachute guy toys out the upstairs window?  The angle makes this look like power lines are involved, but those lines are about 40 feet higher than the toy.

The view from Proctors parking lot

An uninspired title to be sure, but oh, that sky!  This was taken Sunday last, on the way to the Winter Market inside Proctors.  The building with the gold dome is City Hall just peeping over the line of buildings on State Street.  A few years ago, all of these downtown buildings were either boarded up or in disrepair.  Looking much nicer now!

Partly cloudy

It's not just a weather forecast - it's a whole season!  Well, it can sure seem that way sometimes.  The image quality isn't great - I shot through my bedroom window (which can use some cleaning).  This was the last blue I saw - the 'partly cloudy' became 'fully overcast'.

Reach for the sky

I liked the way the moon way nestled into the tree limbs and thought I'd crop it to make the moon look nicer.  Of course once I started to manipulate it I just made a mess of things.  In the end, I settled on the original image.  One of these days I'm going to actually sit down and learn how to use the Gimp.

Sunset spider

This spider was spinning her web in a place where she was backlit by the sky at sunset.

Street, reflected

The lighting was just right to capture the street in my son's car window. I really like playing with reflections but I'm not very good at it yet.

Twilight's last gleaming

The sky was so clear last night that I was able to see the sun all the way down. Well, sort of. We're in the Mohawk River valley, and the valley walls block the sun before it has set, but when conditions are right, the sun's rays skim over the tops of the trees and shine on our little hilltop.
