Sunset over Bascom Lodge

In September, I go for 5 days to Mt Greylock, MA to participate in a ham radio contest.  When I get back I can hear faint Morse code in every fan and motor.  And it'll take me a few days to use my own call sign on the air after using the contest group's call so often.  It's a good time; familiar faces converge on the place from as far away as Virginia.

This September's contest was a little hard; we had solid rain during Thursday's setup.  It was solid fog with scattered showers on Friday, and Saturday was wet in the morning, clearing into the afternoon.  When, of course, we no longer need to be outside!

This is the sunset on Saturday, 14 Sep 2013.  The building is Bascom Lodge, built in the 1930s.

Sunset in the Helderbergs

Driving up along the Helderberg Escarpment, and saw this fabulous sunset.  I must have taken 50 photos!  It was so hard to choose just one to post, but I like the farm silhouette here.

Lucky sunset

"Lucky' because something came out nice enough to keep.  The sky looked dramatic in the parking lot at work, so as I was leaving I set the camera to automatic.  I drive by the airport every day, and obviously there's a great wide open space free of trees there.  As I passed by the runway, I pointed the camera out the driver's side window and pressed the shutter a whole bunch of times.  I sort of like how this one turned out, despite the funky lights hovering in midair.

Skywatch Friday

A few weeks ago, we were treated to this sunset, right here in the middle of the city.  I was a bit bothered that the power and telephone lines would mar the image, but then I reasoned that this is how it looks, so I jsut took the photo :-)  In the end, the overhead wires don't look all that bad.

Sunset spider

This spider was spinning her web in a place where she was backlit by the sky at sunset.

Twilight's last gleaming

I was able to catch the sun setting over the far ridge.  This is one of those photos that really needs to be seen enlarged before it looks decent.

Skywatch Friday

I've been getting ready for the June ham radio contest so I've been spending some time up in the hills on the southwest side of the valley. The sky is a lot bigger up there and the sunsets are beautiful.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank the people who've stopped by and left comments recently. I do read every single one, but I've been too busy to visit and reply back. I deeply appreciate you and I will be visiting as soon as I can!

Thank you so much for your supportive words!

I haven't posted a sunset in a while so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Skywatch Friday

Another Skywatch Friday post. Visit all the other great photographers who share their skies every Friday!

This is our community garden at sunset. It's a pretty place with all those plants everywhere although the biting bugs seem to like it too. The street light has just come on - I'm pleasantly surprised at the low light capability of this old Nikon CoolPix 950.

Skywatch Friday

Not taken today; it's been rainy this week. This was taken at the end of a glorious week of summer sun. Summer? Yes, that's what it seemed like. Fortunately for the gardens, Spring has returned with a bit of rain to help those plants grow!

This was taken on one of the ridges above the Mohawk River valley to the west of me. In Rotterdam Junction, to be somewhat accurate.

See all the participants over at the Skywatch Friday page. Definitely worth a visit.

Vertigo, with sunlight

An accidental artsy shot. Mucking about with the camera on manual, playing with the aperture (to manipulate the depth of field) when I saw the bricks side-lit by the morning sun.

Voila!

Sunset at the Nott Memorial

The interior of the Nott Memorial is mostly empty space, so the as the sun sets, it shines in the west windows and strikes the east windows, here.

I liked how it looked better in person, but I couldn't bear to not try to photograph it.

Nice sky

Every so often the skies cooperate and we get a pretty sunset. While this isn't exactly sunset, it's close.

I think they're called crepuscular rays.
