HG Reist Wildlife Preserve

Pine trees growing in the HG Reist Wildlife Sanctuary in Niskayuna (just east of Schenectady proper.) It's a great place to go for a walk, dense trees and several decently marked paths. Poison ivy in the wet areas, but if you stay on the trails it isn't an issue. Saw a woodpecker but he didn't photograph very well with the point and shoot camera.

Here's where to find the Sanctuary. There's a small bit of parking at the north end, on Morgan Av.

Walking in the woods

It's a close-up of moss.

Found while walking in the woods. I tried to take a photo from a distance, to get some perspective on how this patch related to the spot it was growing, but it didn't really have any bite. The close-up looks like a scene from a science fiction movie!

Walking in the woods

A bit of land that belonged to my grandfather always called 'The farm' by the family. It's gone back to nature now, covered with trees, and it's near water. Whilst walking through there, I came across this evidence that beavers are active. There were a few others as well, but this was the most photogenic!

Cool walk on a hot day

On a hot summer day, one can still find some refreshment outdoors in Central Park's woods. This bit is somewhat off the beaten path. This path runs along the stream for a bit, then goes up the little hill away from the swings, facing Iroquois Lake.

I don't know why it's almost always empty... it's a lovely place.
