Blessed rain

Here in Schenectady county, we are merely abnormally dry.  That's the official word from the weather people.  It seems as though we haven't had any rain for a month, but the climatology report shows we had a total of 0.14 inches of rain this month (compared to 1.72 inches expected).  At any rate, it rained this morning - for a good 20 minutes.  I can't say that this will alleviate our dryness, but it was very welcome.

  1. Here in Australia, we were low on rain for a full ten years, and then the El Nino/Nina thing flipped, and all we seem to get now is rain.

I love your gutter image! And appreciate that you post your camera settings.

  2. Last year we had above average rainfall. Most of California this year had half of what is expected. The rainy season is now over and we don't expect rain until maybe October. Any rain in summer still seems slightly odd to me. Fingers crossed you get the precipitation you need.

  3. Our weather last year was cool and rainy, culminating in a double dose of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee dumping a huge amount of water into the Hudson / Mohawk watershed. The rain and wind did a lot of damage to local crops, and what the storms didn't wreck, the post-storm flooding did. Reservoirs, canal locks, river banks and even culverts - anything that carries water - were inundated, swept away and re-sculpted. And we're accustomed to heavy rain. What a mess.

Now, this year saw an bizarre pre-spring heat wave that prompted everything to bloom early, followed by a return to typical freezing cold which killed off many blossoms. And now this strange heat wave and extended dry weather. We expect this for a few weeks in August, but not June!

Not unheard-of, but definitely on the edges of the weather norms.
